TESTIMONIAL
Purdue Solar Racing (PSR) is an official student organization of Purdue University focused on the design, construction, and racing of solar powered vehicles. On the current vehicle, SPOT II (Solar Powered Overland Transportation 2), minimizing weight, achieving low manufacturing costs, and meeting aggressive construction timelines were critical to the success of the vehicle. PSR has made extensive use of Rexco's Partall line of release waxes to aide in meeting these targets. With quick application and ease of buffing, the Partall waxes have proven a time effective means for mold release. Further, the high level of durability of these products provides a wide margin of safety and has proven very helpful in completing carbon fiber layups with complex molding shapes. The SPOT II body was a 15' x 5' x 3' shell which was removed from the mold in a matter of seconds with no release issues! PSR utilizes the Partall waxes for both room and elevated temperature cures with no differences noted in the performance. In all cases the parts were quickly and easily removed from the molds with high quality surface finishes. Partall waxes have proven key in meeting cost targets, as their superior performance allows for continued reuse of the mold and to date, no parts have been scrapped due to mold release issues. Further, in the drive for low weight, PSR chose not to paint SPOT II, and hence surface finish out-of-the-mold was critical. The Partall waxes exceeded expectations on maintaining the glossy and smooth surface finish of the molds and an equally impressive final part. The Partall line of products by Rexco has allowed PSR to maintain a high level of professionalism in its carbon fiber composites construction, leading to reduced weight, cost, and manufacturing time.
